  • Current distribution known : widely distributed in the Lower (including Pool Malebo), Middle and parts of the Upper Congo River basin. In the Upper Congo, it is know from the Ubangi, Lualaba and upper Lualaba rivers, as well as the Kalamondo Depressions, specifically in Lake Upemba. In the Middle Congo, it is reported from the Sangha and Ugangi rivers as well as the Aruwimi and Lindi/Tshopo rivers. It has not been reported from the Kwango and Kasai systems. It is also not reported from the Itimbiri and Ituri Rivers in the northeastern Congo. More recently, it has been reported as absent from Lake Tumba where it was previously reported as common. It may also be distributed in the rivers of Gabon, the Republic of Congo, and perhaps Angola, but this requires confirmation .
