Current distribution known : known from Lake Kwania, the Victoria Nile, Lake Kyoga and Lake Victoria basin including affluent rivers, Uganda, Tanzania and Kenya. Also present in the Middle Akagera system .

Food habits / trophic level : predominantly insectivorous, feeding mainly on chironomid larvae, but also feeds on small organisms like Ostracoda, Hydracarina, Conchostraca and Diaptomus. Crustaceans, gastropods, fish eggs and detritus are also taken .
