  • Current distribution known : in Lower Guinea, it occurs in the Sanaga, Nyong and Ntem Rivers (Cameroon), the entire Ogowe and Nyanga Basins (Gabon) and the Kouilou-Niari and Shiloango Basins in the Republic of Congo. Its presence in the Dja River (Cameroon) as well as in other parts of the Sangha Basin in the Democratic Republis of the Congo is of ichthyogeographic interest. It is the only species of Hepsetus known from the Dja River (Cameroon), presently a tributary of the Congo Basin, but formerly a tributary of the Nyong (Cameroon), a Lower Guinea coastal basin .
