  • Current distribution known : a species complex, which is yet to be fully taxonomically researched and described. As this species currently stands, it has a widespread distribution across much of the southern half of Africa. In Central Africa, it is known from the southern tributaries of the Congo River system. It is also known from the Cuanza and Lake Tanganyika. In Eastern Africa, it occurs in Malawi, in the upland streams of the Ruo River at the base of Mulanje Mountain. Another subpopulation occurs in the Rufilyo River flowing into Lake Malawi just north of the Tanzania-Malawi border. Two specimens reportedly from Lake Malawi at Nkhata Bay are deposited in the British Natural History Museum. In Southern Africa, the species occurs in small streams and tributaries throughout the upper Zambezi system, rarely in the main Zambezi river channel. It is also reported from the Cunene, Okavango, Quanza and the Congo system. Other reported areas of occurrence, for example in eastern Zimbabwe, need further study. Subpopulations of E. eutaenia like fishes occur in South Africa (Mpumalanga, Kawzulu-Natal) and Swaziland .
