  • Current distribution known : widely distributed in Africa. It occurs from the Lake Victoria basin in the north to the Cunene River and coastal river basins in Mozambique in the south. In Central Africa, this species is known from the Upper Lualaba in the Katanga province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, and from the Mweru-Luapula and Chambeshi systems in Zambia. In Eastern Africa, it is found in the Lake Kyoga, Lake Victoria, Lake Edward, Lake Kivu, Lake Tanganyika and Lake Malawi basins. It is also present in the Middle Akagera system), Lake Baringo and coastal river basins in Kenya (Athi, Tana, Pangani, Ewaso Nyiro),Tanzania (Wami, Rufiji, Ruaha, Pangani) (Bailey 1969) and Uganda (Aswa River). In Southern Africa, it is known from tributaries of the Lower Zambezi, from the Upper Zambezi, Cunene, Okavango and Save-Runde system. It is also in the Chobe, Buzi, Pungwe and Kafue rivers .
