  • Current distribution known : known from river systems stretching from Guinea to Ethiopia, including the Nile, Niger, Volta, Chad and Bandama. In central Africa, specimens thought to be this species have been collected in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo at Tshambi and Gangala na Bodio (Dungu River), Aro River and Ndrige River, but these data are currently unpublished. In northern Africa, this species has been recorded from the Nile, but its current status and distribution in the Egyptian part of the Nile river is uncertain. In northeast Africa, it is widely distributed from the Ghazal el jebel system to the White Nile and Lake Nasser (also known as Lake Nubia). It is also found in the Omo and Baro rivers and the Rift lakes in Ethiopia. In western Africa, it is widely distributed in the Chad, Niger, Volta, Bandama and Comoé rivers .
