In central and western parts, the species occurs in the Chad, Niger, Senegal, Volta, Ouémé and Ogun river basins, and the coastal rivers (Sassandra, Bandama, Niouniourou, Comoé and Tano) of Côte d'Ivoire and Ghana, west of the Volta basin .
