Food habits :
a benthic feeder that, at larger size, turns piscivorous. Specimens smaller than 150 mm fork length mainly eat insect larvae. Molluscs and plant material become more important with increased size. When the fish reach sizes of 250 mm fork length or more, fish is their main food item (up to 50%), while also some plants and insect larvae are consumed
