widespread in coastal basins from the Sanaga (Cameroon) to the Chiloango (Cabinda Province of Angola). Also found in the middle Congo River basin. But, recent studies suggest that populations in Equatorial Guinea, the Dja River, and the lower Ntem River in Cameroon are distinct species
