  • Current distribution known : found in Pool Malebo (= Stanley Pool), and from the central and the upper Congo River basin. Occurs also in streams and rivers affluent to Lake Tanganyika, including the Mutsindozi River, Malagarasi River basin .
  • Habitat / home range : this benthopelagic species prefers stream and riverine biotopes .

  • Size : 110 mm TL .
  • Types :
    • Chelaethiops katangae Poll, 1948 a: 11, fig. 3. Type locality: "rivière Kafila, affluent de la Lufira, Kienge (près de Lukafu)", Katanga. Holotype ISNB n° 78; paratypes (14) ISNB n° 79 to 80.
    • Engraulicypris congicus Nichols & Griscom, 1917: 703, fig. 17. Type locality: "Poko, Likati River", Zaïre River system. Holotype AMNH n° 6294.
    • Engraulicypris luluae Fowler, 1930: 39, fig. 9. Type locality: "Lulua River, tributary of the Kasai River, Belgian Congo". Holotype ANSP n° 51.741; paratype ANSP n° 51.742 (closely related if not synonymous with E. congicus).
