  • Current distribution known : widely distributed in Africa. It is known from Cameroon to Ethiopia, and from Egypt to Tanzania. In central Africa, it is known from Cameroon, the Kwango River (Middle Congo basin) in Angola, and from the Aruwimi and Lower Congo Rivers in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. However, its presence in the Congo River basin was not confirmed. In eastern Africa, ot is found in the Lake Victoria drainage, northern Ewaso Nyiro, the Pangani drainage, and the Athi and Tana basins. It is also known from the Mukungwa River (Upper Akagera system) in Rwanda and from the Victoria Nile in Uganda. In northern Africa, it has been reported from Egypt. In northeast Africa, it is widely distributed in Ethiopia. It is present in Lake Tana, Omo, Baro, Abbay, Awash basins, Abaya basin, Lake Shala and Lake Ziway. It is also found in the White Nile in Sudan and present but rare in upper Nile and Lake Nasser (also known as Lake Nubia). In western Africa, it is known from the Upper Logone River (Chad basin) and the Benue River in Cameroon .
