Common names : Blue lampeye (English), Suomutähtisilmä (Finnish), Blauer Leuchtaugenfisch (German) .
Current distribution known : Alima and Likouala River drainages (middle Congo River basin) in Republic of Congo. Reports of Hylopanchax stictopleuron from other parts of the central Congo basin and the upper Ivindo River are misidentifications of other Hylopanchax species .
Ecology : not a seasonal killifish .
Food habits : ants and other insects (Huber, Killi-Data online: www.killi-data.org) .
Habitat / home range : occurs mainly in dark and acid forest creeks, partly under forest cover, partly weedy .
Reproduction : near-to-surface spawner; 2 weeks incubation (Huber, Killi-Data online: www.killi-data.org) .
