Common names : Zona (English) .
Current distribution known : endemic to Madagascar. The present range extends from the lower reaches of the Ivoloina River, the effective northern terminus of the Lakandrano Pangalana, at least as far south as Manambolo Creek, which drains into the Lakandrano Pangalana 10 km south of the town of Vatomandry .

Habitat / home range : inhabits clear, well-shaded streams at altitudes up to 30 meters above sea level; prefers slow-flowing sections; observed in loose, size-graded associations up to several dozen of individuals; juveniles usually found in the shallows, adults frequent deeper waters .
