- Gobius ornatus Rüppell, 1828: 135. Type locality: "Massawah", Red Sea. No information on type material.
- Gobius ventralis Valenciennes in Cuvier & Valenciennes, 1837: 113. Type locality: "Massuah", Red Sea. No type material, species based on a figure of Ehrenberg.
