Current distribution known : known only from three river basins in Guinea-Bissau and the Senegal: Corobal River, Géba River and Casamance River. Records from eastern Niger basin are based on confusion with P. bichir. Record from the Upper Niger basin was subsequently regarded as based on an atypical P. bichir lapradii .
