Current distribution known : endemic to Lake Albert, including the delta of Murchison Nile .
Fisheries / overfishing : this species is increasingly becoming targeted by fisheries .
Habitat / home range : a benthopelagic species common in surface zones of inshore waters .
Osteology : Howes, 1984 .
Size : rarely exceeding 45 mm TL .
Types :
- Engraulicypris bredoi Poll, 1945 a: 308, fig. 5. Type locality: "Kasenyi, lac Albert". Holotype MRAC n° 52.645; paratypes MRAC n° 52.646 to 52.850.
Use and trade : emerged as a prominent commercial fishery on Lake Albert. The species is used both for human consumption and in animal feeds. The species is processed through sun drying, salting, and deep-frying, a post-harvest sector that is a major source of employment, especially for women around the lake .
