  • Common names : Nile killifish / Nile lampeye (English), Dog-si / Dog-sini / Doh-sing (Kim: Chad) .
  • Current distribution known : White Nile drainage in Sudan. The Nile and its delta in Egypt (probably disappeared there due to introduction of Gambusia affinis and pollution). Lake Albert and lower Semliki river in northeastern Zaïre. Lake Albert, Albert Nile, Lake Kyoga, Victoria Nile and Lake Victoria drainages in Uganda. Lake Victoria, Malagarasi river and Wembere river drainages in central Tanzania .
  • Ecology : not a seasonal killifish .
  • Habitat / home range : found in small bodies of water and shallow weedy parts of larger water bodies, swamps, irrigation ditches, brooks and small rivers .
  • Osteology : Whitehead, 1962 b .
  • Reproduction : eggs develop in about 14 days in captivity and young reach sexual maturity at age of about 7-8 months .

    • Haplochilus loati Boulenger, 1901 f: 446. Type locality: "Lake No" Central Sudan (09°30'N-30°28'E). Syntypes BMNH n° 1907.12.2: 2709-2723 (50). One of the syntypes was refered to A. normani by H. S. Clausen in 1965 and stored separate under n° 1907.12.2: 2713.
    • Haplochilus schoelleri Boulenger, 1904 e: 135. Type locality: "Freshwater wells and watering canals close to lake Mareotis" vicinity of Lake Maryut Bahayrat, Alexandria, Egypt (± 31°08'N-29°56'E). Syntype BMNH n° 1904.6.28: 19 and 21-26 (7).
