  • Current distribution known : distributed from the east coast of Africa and the Red Sea (type locality), Madagascar and the Seychelles, eastwards to Kiribati and American Samoa. In the western Pacific this species is distributed from southern Japan to northeastern Australia and New Caledonia .
  • Habitat / home range : occurs in shallow coastal waters, including estuarine habitats such as mangroves, tidal creeks, and the lower reaches of rivers .
