  • Habitat / home range : a pelagic freshwater species. Found in streams with water of low ionic content; it always occurs in shoals that tend to keep to the middle of the stream, where the current is at its strongest. It is a skilled and untiring swimmer, extremely fast and hence not easily caught .

    • Denticeps clupeoides Clausen, 1959: 147-151, fig. 1-6. Type locality: "River Yemoji where this crosses the road, seven miles from Ijebu-Ode towards Epe, Southern Ijebu Province, West Nigeria". Holotype ZMUC n° 155; paratypes (50) ZMUC n° 156 to 210.
