Current distribution known : native to the basins of the Mananjeba, Mahavavy du Nord, Ifasy, Manehoko and Ampandra rivers in northwestern Madagascar .
Food habits : ants and other insects (stranding); also, equally, larvae of insects and small atyd shrimps from substratum (Huber, Killi-Data online: www.killi-data.org) | feeds on terrestrial and aquatic insects and preyed upon mostly by fish-eating birds and dragonfly nymphs .

Habitat / home range : inhabits small rivers that are tannin stained, acidic, very soft and deficient of dissolved substances, with compacted clay/sand bottoms, overlain with organic detritus. Also found in large rivers with a markedly seasonal hydrological regime, substantial flood plains and water ranges from clear to turbid water, but are not tannin-stained, are less acidic, harder and carry a greater concentrations of dissolved minerals .
