Current distribution known :
species native to the southwestern Mediterranean coastline in northern Africa. It is apparently still present in the Moulouya River in Morocco plus the Soummam and Sebaou rivers in Algeria, but the landlocked population has not been reported from Lake Ichkeul or the Medjerda and Miliane rivers in Tunisia for more than 20 years

while at sea this species feeds predominantly on crustaceans and small fishes, whereas in freshwater adults do not feed and juveniles prey on planktonic crustaceans

Reproduction :
sexual maturity is reached at 3-4 and 4-5 years for males and females, respectively. Upstream migration takes place from mid-March until the end of May when water temperatures reach 14-18°C. Some individuals migrate back to the sea post-spawning, although many die. Most juveniles migrate downstream to river mouths during their first summer and remain at sea until they mature. In the Miliane and Medjerda rivers, Tunisia, the juveniles migrated seaward in September
