  • Current distribution known : distributed throughout the Red Sea, south to South Africa, Madagascar, and Mauritius, eastward to the Gulf of Thailand, off Viet Nam, Singapore, and the Philippines, north to Hong Kong, south to the Arafura Sea, off north and eastern Australia, east to New Caledonia, Samoa and Tahiti. Recently (1999), the first record of this species was made in Mediterranean waters near Tel-Aviv .

  • Reproduction : in Manila Bay, the Philippines, it migrates out into deeper and more saline water to spawn, returning inshore immediately thereafter .
