Engraulicypris spinifer Bailey & Matthes, 1971: 79, fig. 1. Type locality: "Kazima reservoir near Tabora, in the Malagarasi drainage basin". Holotype BMNH n° 1970.3.10.: 1; paratypes BMNH n° 1970.3.10: 2 to 11 (type locality) and ZMA n° 109.709 (from the river Ruaha (Rufiji system) at Mbuyuni on the Iringa-Morogoro road).
