Introduction : introduced from Europe (France and U.K.) and Africa (Morocco and South Africa) to Madagascar, Morocco, South Afica, Tunisia and Zimbabwe (from1910 to 1965) for fisheries and angling; seems acclimated in some ponds in Morocco. Also introduced in Algeria (El Golea) from France, but never became established .

- Cyprinus tinca Linnaeus, 1758: 321. Type locality: European lakes. No types known. Spelled trinca by Linnaeus 1766: 526. Neotype designated by Fricke 1999 (SMNS 10985), but withdrawn in Fricke 2000.
