Common names : Perince (Arabic: Sudan), Enzuguri [Chiga (Kiga): Uganda], Parmicka benuénska (Czech), Benué pardkala (Estonian), Kolmipistebarbi (Finnish), Krokiri-ikpokpo (Ijo: Nigeria), Bege / Beger (Kim: Chad), Enzunguli (Konzo: Uganda), Pedi (Zande: Sudan) .
Current distribution known : patchily distributed from Guinea to Uganda, and along the length of the Nile. In eastern Africa, this species is found in Lakes Albert and Edward. In northern Africa, it is present but rare in Nile delta and lower Egyptian Nile. In northeast Africa, it occurs along the Nile, and in Baro and Blue Nile basins, Ethiopia. In western Africa, it is known from the Chad basin and the Niger .
