Current distribution known :
large rivers draining to North Sea, Baltic Sea, Black Sea, Sea of Azov and Caspian Sea; Aegean Sea basin. Absent in Black Sea basin south of Danube and Rioni (Georgia) drainages, but present in Turkey west of Ankara. lntroduced in Rhine, Northem Dvina and Lake Balkhash (Asia). In Africa this species was found in the Ain Zada reservoir (Northeastern Algeria)), and was probably part of the 2006 summer introduction of exotic cyprinids, but it seems that it never became established
