Food habits / trophic level : it may be characterized as an omnivore. Diet found to be highly variable. Gut contents in certain individuals comprised of primarily macerated aquatic insects and insect larvae, other aquatic invertebrates, and very small amount of plant material. Contents of other individuals comprised almost entirely of a variety of plant material, especially filamentous algae, with paucity of aquatic insect larvae and other invertebrates .
