  • Current distribution known : throughout Mediterranean and atlantic coasts from southern Norway to Morocco. Records of its occurrence in tropical waters (Boulenger, 1901 q: 356, Fowler, 1919: 251; Norman & Irvine in Irvine, 1947: 198) based on misidentifications (Trewavas, 1973: 571) .
  • Fisheries / overfishing : Libovarsky & Darrag, 1975 | Libovarsky, Lusk & El-Sedfy, 1972 .
  • Habitat / home range : in brackish waters of lagoons and estuaries, ascending rivers and remaining in fresh water to feed often for months; lives well in saline lakes but spawns in sea .
  • Size : 500 mm TL .
