  • Current distribution known : common in the Cross River within 20 km downstream of Mamfé. Other known specimens of this species, all in the BMNH have only "West Africa" or "Old Calabar" for locality. The record of a specimen from Gabon by Boulenger, 1916 a: 147, is based on misidentified material of T. guttifer. Other records are doubtful .
  • Habitat / home range : young and adult are common in the mainstream of the Cross River within 20 km downstream of Mamfé .
  • Size : 360 mm TL (dried skin observed by the author (T.R. Roberts) at Mamfe in March 1980) .
  • Types :
    • Tetraodon leiogaster Smith, 1865: 268. Type locality: "Old Calabar". No information on the type.
    • Tetraodon pustulatus Murray, 1857: 252. Type locality: "Old calabar" presumably lower Cross River. Syntypes BMNH n° 1866.6.14: 5 and 6.
